Church of the Intercession (Pokrovska)
Architect: general Kotlyarevskyi
Description: The church was designed in a restrained and elegant Classical style, with a cruciform plan, a large central dome, and a tall bell tower rising above the western entrance. The building survived the Soviet period and the First and Second World Wars intact. However, as a result of sustained shelling by heavy artillery, mortars, and tanks, the historic church was destroyed almost to its foundations. The main dome collapsed completely, along with the bell tower, interior floor structures, columns, and apse.
