Chernihiv Regional Universal Scientific Library named after Sofia and Olexandr Rusov

Description

The building was originally built for the Noblemen’s Land Bank. The architect employed the restrained style of Northern Art Nouveau. The main façade was asymmetrical, with its principal emphasis provided by the entrance tower, reminiscent of a medieval fortress donjon. Decoration was kept to a minimum, but granite was used for the base and natural marble for the steps. The building sustained relatively minor damage, including the destruction of part of the roof; its restoration was announced.
