Kherson Regional Museum of Local History

Description: The main building of the museum was originally constructed to house the Kherson District Court. Its façade was decorated with massive pilasters and cornices, evoking ancient temples. In 1975, the building was transferred to the museum. Before withdrawing from Kherson, Russian forces and the occupation administration removed around 80% of the collections. Since the city’s de-occupation, the museum complex has repeatedly come under Russian artillery fire. During particularly severe shelling in 2025, the famous lapidarium – a collection of ancient stone sculptures – and the amphora hall were hit.
