Description
The building was originally constructed as the city’s main and most technically advanced cinema, with a 450-seat auditorium. The two-storey structure combined features of the monumental Stalinist Empire style with those of restrained Academic Classicism. Its grand façade was distinguished by a deep central semicircular portal, massive pilasters, and wide foyer windows. In 2017, the regional council transferred the premises to the Chernihiv Regional Youth Centre. Following a missile strike in 2022, the resulting explosion completely destroyed the interior: the floors of the auditorium collapsed, internal load-bearing walls gave way, and only the heavily deformed and fire-damaged shell of the main façade remained, with its empty arched openings. The building was more than 70% destroyed.
