Chasiv Yar City Palace of Culture

Description: The Palace of Culture was originally built as the central recreational and educational facility for workers at the Chasiv Yar refractory plant. The monumental two-storey building featured a main façade, decorated with a massive portico of tall columns, stucco ornamentation, and deep arched windows. Russian forces carried out a targeted strike on the centre of the town using cluster munitions. Because of the nature of the munitions, the wooden floors and roof of the Palace of Culture caught fire almost instantly. As firefighters were forced to withdraw under repeated shelling, the palace was completely destroyed by fire and burnt to the ground.
